It has been almost three decades since the Ameobis came to Newcastle, and Dave's life has never been the same. It started when Shola, the eldest Ameobi, was spotted while playing for Walker Central Boys Club, and given an invitation to the prestigious Newcastle United Academy.
Two more Ameobis followed suit, first Tomi, and then Sammy. Dave has followed them everywhere. Six years ago, when Shola was loaned out from his beloved Toon Army, Dave became a Potter.
Last year, he had to support Boro when Sammy was loaned out to Middlesbrough. These moves have been tough on the Geordie. But by comparison to Tomi, Shola and Sammy have been downright kind him.
You see, Edmonton are the eleventh side Tomi has been part of since his days at the Newcastle United Academy.
He's been a White, part of the Iron, a Viking, Mighty Mariner, Stag, part of the Green Army, a Seahorse, Djúpmann, Grindvíkingar, Vepsi, and now a Rabbit. At least he knows what a Rabbit is. To this day he still doesn't know what's so mighty about the mariners?
Dave was pleased to hear FC Edmonton manager Colin Miller say, "I think Tomi is an excellent signing, and he comes with a very good pedigree, and lots of experience."
"He understands the game, and I am very happy that our club can attract a player with his calibre and quality. Tomi seems to be enjoying himself and is a very welcome addition to the squad."
Dave couldn't have put it better himself.
When Ameobi started in the pouring rain alongside Frank Jonke against the Trinity Western Spartans, Dave was there.
When Ameobi came on in the second half against the Simon Fraser Clan and scored his first goal for the club in the 81st minute, Dave was there.
When Ameobi came in in the second half against Fraser Valley Mariners FC and scored his second goal for the club in the 55th minute, Dave was there.
When Ameobi came on in the 65th minute against the British Columbia Thunderbirds, Dave was there.
And when the Rabbits return to Thunderbird Stadium to face Vancouver Whitecaps FC, Dave will be there, cheering on Ameobi and his new teammates.
As Dave put it when he heard that Ameobi had signed with Edmonton, "there's only one Ameobi, only one Ameobi, there's only one Tomi, Tomi Ameobi!"
