'Caps collect Chicago's Tchani cash

The Whitecaps acquired $150,000 in 2018 Targeted Allocation Money, or TAM, from Chicago in exchange for midfielder Tony Chani.

Chani, an 8-year Major League veteran, only joined the Whitecaps in March, having been acquired from Columbus, along with $225,000 in 2017 TAM, as well as $75,000 in 2017 General Allocation Money, for striker Kekuta Manneh.

"We are thankful to Tony for his time in Vancouver and wish him all the best with Chicago," said Whitecaps FC manager Carl Robinson. "This move will give us additional roster flexibility."

The league doesn't even alternate the imbalance, and that's how we've found ourselves in a situation where in three of the last four seasons, Vancouver Whitecaps FC's only match against Chicago Fire SC has taken place in the Windy City.

Caps can't douse the Fire

There are some in the Rain City who view Chicago as one of Vancouver's chief rivals. Sadly, that is not the case in MLS. In four years, we've played them five times, winning twice, drawing twice, and losing an away match back in 2012. In the NASL, Vancouver did very well against the old Chicago Sting, winning 11 matches, and losing a mere six. But there is no real animosity between these two sides, no point of contention.
