Lucas Cavallini, who signed with Vancouver Whitecaps in December, had some interesting things to say at Media Day in Los Angeles on Friday.
"I liked everything, I really loved it, it was sad to leave because it was an incredible league where many doors opened to me, people have treated me and my family very well, it was a very nice experience and I hope one day I can return there," Cavallini said of former club Puebla FC.
"But the return of life is unknown and I will be grateful to Mexico and also to Puebla, a city where two of my three children were born. I will always take it to Mexico in my heart," he added.
"The pressure on the MLS is not very large compared to Mexico and Uruguay. You love what you do, right? So you can't feel pressure," he said regarding his decision to come to North America, "I felt that [Vancouver] believed a lot in me and that was the important thing... but also to reach a team that not only plays in the MLS, but also in my country; It's going to be a good story, I really want to start training."
"I am zero Canadian, I was just born there," laughed the centre forward.
"Since my father is Argentine, my culture was Latin, wasn't it? I have all the Latin experiences in my blood... just growing up" in Canada, where he lived until he was 16, although he had been training periodically in South America since he was 8, "with my friends and playing all sports, hockey... you can say that. But no, I think in Spanish and it changed me how I think of Canada. Yes, obviously proud of playing in the national team, my selection, and trying to make history for my country."
Well, if this is anything to go on, his interviews are going to be a lot of fun this year.
