Much has been made of Landon Donovan's status as the co-leading scorer in Major League Soccer history. The 134 goals he has to his name are good enough to place him level with Jamaica's Jeff Cunningham.
But perhaps we've all been focusing on the wrong statistic. For it has been eight matches since Landycakes found the back of the net. He was an unused substitute in the first match, and has had 630 minutes since to break the record. 180 of those were against Vancouver.
Last month he said "to be honest, I don't think about it until it's brought up," so it came as something of a surprise to see Robbie Keane spend so much time trying to set him up. A full third of the Irishman's passes were to Donovan, in some cases the ball was fed to Donovan over other players in more advantageous positions.
We may never know the reasons Keane was passing to Donovan, whether it was to help Donovan break the record, or because he didn't trust his teammates with the ball, but either way, he let his team down on Saturday.

Worst of all, it didn't work. Donovan's drought now stands at seven matches, 630 minutes, or 196 days.
For the Whitecaps, it was their fourth straight sell out, good enough for fifth place, behind only Seattle, Montreal, Los Angeles, and Toronto, who al have a higher capacity than the Caps current configuration allows them.
Kenny Miller returned to the starting eleven, replacing Sebastián Fernández, and Matías Laba was back after serving his one match suspension.
Stefan Ishizaki opened the scoring for the Galaxy in the 38th minute. As Baggio Husidic and Steven Beitashour chased a ball that was going out for a goal kick, Husidic beat the Iranian, heading the ball into the 6-yard-box, where Stefan Ishizaki put it away with his own header.
With Andy O'Brien picking up a first minute yellow card, he would be substituted at half time for Johnny Leverón. Russell Teibert also came off, being replaced by Kekuta Manneh.
Darren Mattocks was a consistent threat against Los Angeles, and was rewarded for his efforts with a 67th minute goal at BC Place on 19 April 2014.
Darren Mattocks continued to be a threat, chasing down balls, harassing the keeper, and staying on side. At one point, he looked to have been fouled in the box, didn't get the call, and immediately got up and got back on side, and was rewarded with another scoring opportunity. As Jason Kurylo of Pucked in the Head remarked, "that wouldn't have happened last year".
With the Galaxy still up by one, Carl Robinson made his last change in the 65th minute, bringing on Erik Hurtado for Pedro Morales. Hurtado rewarded the manager's confidence by assisting on Darren Mattocks' equaliser, two minutes later.
And although Robbie Keane would restore Los Angeles' lead, Vancouver never gave up hope. They continued to press for every ball, fight for every chance, and their persistence was rewarded when Kekuta Manneh struck an 86th minute equaliser.
