British Columbia has been kind, but not gentle with the Rabbits this year, who improved to two wins on the trot after their 3-1 victory of the Simon Fraser Clan.
It was a cold day on the mountain, but at least it wasn't raining as it had on Wednesday when Edmonton defeated the Trinity Western Spartans by a score of 3-0.
Edmonton started with a similar line up to the one that met the Spartans, with Lance Parker coming in for John Smits, and Daryl Fordyce starting over Tomi Ameobi being the only changes.
As one would expect from an NCAA side, the Clan proved to be a far more difficult task than the CIS Spartans had offered. The Simon Fraser limited Edmonton's shots, and tried to hold them in midfield.
It wasn't until the 20th minute that the Rabbits got on the score board. Trinidadian defender Kareem Moses managed to connect with a Neil Hlavaty corner kick to open the scoring.
Not five minutes later, the Rabbits doubled their lead as Milton Blanco crossed the ball to Frank Jonke. A fortuitous deflection gave Simon Fraser goalkeeper no chance to make the save.
The first half ended with an amusing countdown, as the clock ran from 45:00 to zero, with the last ten seconds being announced over the public announcement system. No stoppage time was given.
FC Edmonton manager Colin Miller said that he thought there were some really "pleasing things possession wise" regarding the first half. "We didn't overreact under the pressure, when we settled down we played some really good football."
For the start of the second half, Tomi Ameobi replaced Frank Jonke. Later, in the 64th minute, Edmonton changed the rest of the squad.
The Clan were able to pull one back, as Mateo Espinosa found space and managed to slip the ball through the narrow gap between John Smits and the near post. But before the Clan could find an equaliser, Tomi Ameobi put the game out of reach with a late header.
"SFU made it difficult," said Miller after the match. "But our young players stood up to it and created some great chances."
Next, FC Edmonton head to Abbotsford on March 26th for a 6:00 PM PST kick off at Bateman Park, while the Clan have an alumni match to host on March 30th at Fox Field, 6:00 PM PST.
