On Friday morning, Omar Salgado became the eighth Vancouver player to ply his trade with the Charleston Battery of USL Professional Division.
The first pick in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft joins forwards Mamadou Diouf and Marlon Ramirez; midfielders Aminu Abdallah, Andre Lewis, Adam Mena, and Michael Kafari; and defender Jackson Farmer.
Salgado, Diouf, Abdallah, and Lewis all have Major League Soccer contracts, while Ramirez is member of Vancouver's U23 side, and is from the U18s.
The Whitecaps hold the MLS rights to Mena and Kafari, who both joined Vancouver for the preseason before joining the Battery for 2014.
"Omar is a young player with a lot of potential and this loan is a natural step following two seasons with limited playing time," said Whitecaps FC manager Carl Robinson.
"Our partnership with the Battery provides the opportunity for Omar to earn first team minutes, with a number of his peers, during this stretch of our MLS season."
The Battery are set to open the 2014 USL Pro campaign tomorrow at 4:30 PM PST against Orlando City SC, a club that will be joining Major League Soccer next year.
The match reunites the Charleston Whitecaps with former teammates Corey Hertzog and Brad Rusin, who both signed for Orlando during the close season. Click the image below to begin streaming the match.
