Vancouver Whitecaps FC trained at Dhillon Field on Tuesday as the team continues to prepare for Montreal on Saturday.
The Caps got some good news as centre back Andy O’Brien was back for a full training session after missing the weekend match against San Jose. Fellow CB Johnny Leverón also returned to training after missing the weekend’s action but just took part in drills on the side-lines with the physiotherapy staff.
Captain Jay DeMerit felt no negatives following his performance on the weekend against the Earthquakes. It was DeMerit’s first action since injury his hamstring in the opening six minutes of the 2013 Major League Soccer Season.
Loanees Bryce Alderson and Ben Fisk made their return to Vancouver following their participation in the Francophone Games in Nice, France with the Canadian National U21 squad. Alderson and Fisk had been with the Charleston Battery of USL Pro.
Two new Ghanaian trialists were also at Caps training Tuesday. Full back Stephen Awusu Ansah, who has spent time in Spain for the past three years and midfielder Prosper Kasim from International Allies FC, which is the former club of current Whitecaps Gershon Koffie, Aminu Abdallah, and Emmanuel Adjetey.
Vancouver has 30 players in the squad with Caleb Clarke and Corey Hertzog currently on loan.
The Whitecaps will train on Wednesday at UBC before flying to Montreal on Thursday. Once in Montreal, the Caps will train on Friday before Saturday’s match with the Impact.
