As Vancouver's hopes of a last-minute berth in the Chynoweth Cup continue to fade, we begin to reflect on the positives of this year's edition. The Giants can look forward to another high draft pick in 2015. Tyler Benson, Alec Baer, Brennan Menell, and Jakob Stukel will all be another year older, and hopefully ready to take on added responsibility. And of course, the year is almost over.

Oh, it's not been that bad. It's been a lot of fun in fact. The Giants are a lot of things, but boring isn't one of them. Like tonight, when the Spokane Chiefs came into town, and gave Vancouver's mascot Jack a reason to wear the toque that he's so fond of.

Ryan Whittingham, Dominic Zwerger, Jackson Playfair, and Blair Oneschuk got the goals for the visitors, while Thomas Foster, Jackson Houck, and Zane Jones scored at the other end.

With the win, Spokane moves nine points ahead of the Tri-City Americans as the fight for the Western Conference's number seven seed. With another loss by the Kamloops Blazers, who currently find themselves sitting in ninth place, the Chiefs will clinch a Chynoweth Cup berth.

But Vancouver, poor Vancouver. The G-Men have been outscorued 32-9 while losing seven straight, including the 7-0 drubbing by Spokane on March 3rd. With tonight's loss, the home side have no lost five consecutive matches against the Chiefs.

And things won't get any easier for the Giants as they're set to drop the puck on a three game series with the Victoria Royals, before closing out the season with a home and home versus the Kelowna Rockets.
